Leftover Salmon didn't waste any time heating things up at The State Theatre Friday night in Falls Church VA. When Drew Emmitt said “It’s the midnight hour let’s play some rock n roll” he wasn’t kidding, really giving the fans a run for their money playing this historic venue for the first time. It had been a few years since I'd gotten to see LOS live and man did I miss a lot, they are on fire and at the top of their game after the release of their new album Something Higher. I was hoping I’d get to see Drew play his Les Paul Gibson Goldtop, but when he walked on stage and picked it up to open the first two songs of the show with it I knew it was going to be a heater. Good thing I set up Drew side because not only did we get to see him play his Goldtop, but every instrument in his arsenal including 2 mandolins, 2 electric guitars and a fiddle. Drew Emmitt is truly an incredible talent and has mastered his craft better than anyone I’ve witnessed play live before. This concert was a rock n roll dance party led by the always energetic and fun Vince Herman on acoustic guitar and vocals rallying the fired up crowd several times for the Friday night partyyyyyyyyyy. As always it's a treat to watch Andy Thorn tear it up on the banjo but at The State I learned he's also a mean fiddle player putting down the banjo for the fiddle on a 10 minute "Out in The Woods" totally ripping it to shreds. The awesome rhythm section that is Dr Greg Garrison on Bass, Alwyn Robinson on drums and Erik Deutsch on keys held down the low end for a show that lasted a over over 2 hours and had the Friday night DC/VA crowd dancing from start to finish. What a night boys we REALLY needed that.
Two Ton Twig from Alexandria VA got the crowd warmed up with an energetic set of bluegrass music. Two Ton Twig explores the fringes of traditional bluegrass and string band music with their eclectic blend of modern influences. Based in Alexandria, VA. I hope to see Two Ton Twig out at more gigs in the future. Check them out at https://www.twotontwig.com/
